Now you can actually get into the Museum of USSR, explore the space and see some exhibition going on. This is a VRML model, a heavy one - I designed it in 3D MAX and everything is modeled, not just textured, so there is huge amount of faces. After exporting file was processed with VRMLPad to fix animation problems left by 3D MAX. My husband had to make for me some software to optimize 3D MAX VRML output and still rendering speed on my PC (Athlon 700MHz/ 256MB/ GeForce256 graphics) falls below 10 fps on some scenes.
You can use the help of "Guides" - I created little persons with the anchors on them, if you jump on one you'll begin to see from his point of view. From a standing person you can walk away and explore on yor own. If you'll sit on a helicopter it'll take you to a ride over the site. There is also a list of cameras. I tried several VRML viewers and liked most CORTONA (the only problem I had with it is that sometimes you could fall down through the floor*).
On this page you can just go to the virtual museum online (installing VRML plugin first if you don't have one already) or dowload the whole world with all the resource files (images and sounds), unzip it and run later.
*They fixed it in version 3.0!
