♫ Make way for Aladdin casting news! Say “hey” it’s Aladdin casting news! ♫
Okay, don’t lie to us and pretend you didn’t just sing along in your heads because we know you did. And why are we singing so early in the morning? Hours earlier than our normal singing time? Well, because Walt Disney Studios has just announced that casting for Guy Ritchie’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin is complete and production is underway in London right. now.
Casting rumors have been flying around faster than the magic carpet can circle the globe but we’re here with the official deets, so let’s do this:
The Aladdin cast includes: Two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Princess Jasmine’s hand maiden and confidante; Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, a suitor from Skanland and potential husband for Princess Jasmine; and Numan Acar as Hakim, Jafar’s right-hand man and head of the palace guards.
The only thing more delightful than this diverse, exciting cast of talent is this adorable selfie Smith posted this morning of himself with Scott, Massoud, and Kenzari from the set–yep, that’s Agrabah in the background!

As if our hearts weren’t full enough, we can also confirm that Alan Menken is writing two new songs for the film with Tony Award-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (you know their music from La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen)! Of course, Aladdin will also feature new recordings of the original songs written by Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice.
